Artists, writers, coders, entrepreneurs — these are obvious builders. But really we are are all aspiring builders of our own lives.

And just like it takes muscle and machinery to stand up a new skyscraper, it takes guts to give form to our feelings and our vision. This is what the hardhat symbolizes. The unwillingness to back away from our inner voice. The courage to build — and the toughness to keep building.

Our Values are Courage, Kindness, Faith and Sincerity. You will find these values throughout our platform, and we’ll hold each other to them.

  • We believe in having the COURAGE to take chances.

  • We believe that we are all flawed and all need KINDNESS.

  • We believe that each of us must have FAITH in the process, and keep showing up to try.

  • And we believe that great work comes from SINCERITY, always doing our best to be truthful.

Our Conversations celebrate people who are building with these values. We take a positive bias into our interviews. We ask about the work and we ask about the meaning of the work, the mission that it represents for you. We ask about the most amazing moments in the work, and we ask about the greatest challenges and moments of doubt. We believe in celebrating the struggle.

The Art (coming soon): Our goal was to combine the grit that the hardhat represents with the childlike joyfulness that is at the core of creativity. To do this, we developed a collage-based approach, inviting a half-dozen builders/artists to work together to create the different elements of the images: the foreground figures, the hardhats, the stickers, and the backgrounds. Then we let the computer create juxtapositions that we felt were charged with elements of builder energy. We feel there’s a magic in these moments.

  • I’ve been a builder from the beginning. I’ve written, produced and directed several movies and plays. I’ve co-founded, led and sold startups. I’ve been an individual contributor and I’ve been a global executive. In every case what I’ve loved is the work of connecting with big-thinking, sincere people to envision and build something bold. Together.

About a year ago I introduced the initial Hardhats concept to a several artist friends, whom I will introduce you to via the conversations. A couple months later, we holed up in an old Maine farmhouse, cooked a big meal and began to make art and argue about it. I’ve been fascinated by NFTs as a new kind of tool both for storytelling and collaboration, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to experiment and build with friends and family as my partners. More recently, I’ve felt this need for more live conversations, more interaction with more people, around the same vision & values. I’m interested to see if other people feel that same need and how we want to develop this together.

  • I’m 17 years old. I’m a junior in high school. I’ve been interested in art and technology for a while, and I got interested in blockchain and crypto in the past couple years. As my dad was talking about Hardhats, I started to get more and more intrigued so I started helping him with some of the programming pieces. I just found youtube videos to teach me. And the more I did on the project, the more into it I got. My role expanded to be a little bit of everything, imagining and making the hardhat stickers, managing the release for the art, drafting the website, and so on. I’m looking forward to seeing how other people feel about it.

  • I’m a filmmaker and a screenwriter and a painter. I have a BFA from Mass College of Art & Design and an MFA from the American Film Institute. I’ve worked on about 50 movies in my career, in roles from Director to DP to Camera Operator. I love visual art. I’ve made two movies with Dave. As we experimented with the collage concept for Hardhats, someone needed to be responsible for setting the prevailing aesthetic direction of the foreground elements, especially the faces and the eyes, so I took on that role. I’ve been really intrigued by the concepts of this project, both artistic and technical, and the interplay between the two. It’s a new kind of medium and a new kind of storytelling. And it’s awesome to experiment in this way with friends.
